This is in contrast to the success/failure narrative experienced in the past when attempting to quit smoking by other means: absolutely lousy, feel like a complete failure (right) you know youve put in an awful lot of effort, youve gone through all of the struggle of getting off of an addiction, and to fall so easily into an addiction that is very, very easy to fall back into (yes, yes)you know its an awful feeling (M44) Purposeful quitters Most of our sample had initiated e-cigarette use because they actively wanted to quit smoking: gum wasnt going to cut it basically and the patches just didnt seem like a good idea to me I didnt think I wasnt to make a real attempt and patches and gum werent going to work so actually try something that may possibly work (M30)
